Environmental sustainability

The research group on sustainability deals with issues concerning the environmental footprint of products, processes and services. The sustainability and environmental footprint concepts, as well as the application areas of energy, mobility, waste and resources use are steadily on any policy maker agenda: the studies, promoted by Polaris within this area, are aimed at providing answers to the sustainable management of all these aspects.

The main area of study is the life cycle evaluation of products, processes and services by the LCA methodology (Life Cycle Assessment) which is able to achieve a comprehensive picture of a system and identify all the impacts on the environment.

Instead, the Carbon Footprint calculation allows estimating the greenhouse gases emission of a system, which represents its contribution to climate change.
