Measurement of airborne particle: emissions from industrial plants, exposure and dose
The Laboratory of Industrial Measurement (LAMI) of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio has expertise in the environmental field. In particular, its research activity is focused on aerosol characterization and waste management/treatment. In terms of aerosol characterization, the Laboratory is able to perform measurement of particle number, surface area and mass concentrations and size distributions. Both laboratory equipment and handheld monitors are available at the LAMI. Therefore, in the last years, the researchers carried out a number of studies characterizing the emission of particles from different sources as well as studies on the exposure to aerosol in different environments, both indoor and outdoor. The LAMI guarantees the metrological performances of such instruments since it is also provided by a particle generation system and a calibration apparatus. Research activities were also supported by collaborations with several national and international research groups (e.g. Queensland University of Technology, Australia). In the waste management/treatment field, LAMI’s researchers performed studies aimed to evaluate the emissions of incineration plants and their possible effects on the surrounding areas.
